What is Meta Verified? Everything You Need to Know in 2023

"Should I get Meta Verified" is the question we are getting from all of our clients the past couple of months. And while we have conflicting views from different sides of the Instagram spectrum, here is everything that you need to know.

Meta Verified is a service that provides a solution for Instagram and Facebook users who have been struggling to obtain the coveted blue check badge. This badge has long been seen as a symbol of credibility and authenticity on these social media platforms. If you're an influencer or business owner looking to establish trust and credibility with your followers, then Meta Verified might be the solution you're looking for.

But how does it work, and what are the costs involved? Keep reading to learn more about this verification option and how it can benefit you as an established influencer on Instagram.

Note that the Meta Verified subscription service is not available to everyone. The eligibility criteria are strict, and only certain types of accounts are considered for verification. However, if you are already an influencer or have a business account with a substantial following, then you may be eligible.

In summary, if you're looking for a way to enhance your social media presence and establish your credibility on Instagram and Facebook, Meta Verified is an option worth exploring. With their subscription service, you can unlock the blue check badge, gain more trust from your followers, and take your social media game to the next level.

What is Meta Verified?

Meta Verified is a subscription bundle designed to help creators on Instagram and Facebook increase their presence and receive the blue check badge. The subscription includes account verification, account impersonation protection, exclusive stickers, expanded reach, and access to human support agents. With a subscription cost of $14.99/month on iOS and Android, or $11.99/month on the web (only for Facebook), Meta Verified is currently only available to individuals, not brands.

While the original verified badges on Instagram and Facebook were only available to public figures, celebrities, and brands, Meta Verified is changing the game. This new verification option looks the same as the original verification badge, but it comes with extra benefits. This means that individuals who have the original style of verification as a notable profile can apply to Meta Verified to access the additional components of the subscription.

So, why is Meta charging for verification? Instagram head Adam Mosseri explained in a Reel that these types of premium subscriptions are becoming an industry-wide trend. Other social platforms such as YouTube, Reddit, and Discord have already implemented premium subscription plans. However, Meta launched Meta Verified with a small trial and is currently only open to individuals to avoid the chaos that ensued when Twitter launched a similar plan.

The Meta Verified process includes checking your name and photo against your government-issued photo ID, which helps to reduce the number of illegitimate verified accounts. When Meta Verified launched in late February, it was only available in Australia and New Zealand. However, Adam Mosseri announced on his Instagram channel on March 17 that Meta Verified is now available in the U.S., with plans to expand to other countries soon.

Who can get Meta Verified?

  • Your account must represent a real individual person, not a company or brand.

  • You must be 18 years or older.

  • You must live in Australia, New Zealand, or the United States.

  • You must not violate the Terms of Use or Community Guidelines on Instagram or the Terms of Service or Community Standards on Facebook.

  • Your profile must use your full real name, which must match the name on your government-issued ID.

  • Your profile photo must show your face, which must match the photo on your government-issued ID.

  • You must enable two-factor authentication.

  • You must have a prior posting history (i.e., you cannot apply for a brand-new account).

Can my business get Meta Verified?

As of right now, your business cannot get Meta Verified. The verification service is only available to individuals who can verify their identity with a government-issued ID.

The reason for this restriction is that your name on your Instagram account needs to match the name on your government ID. This is part of the verification process to ensure that the person claiming to be the account owner is actually who they say they are.

So if you're a business owner looking to get your Instagram account verified, you'll have to wait for Meta to make the service available to businesses. In the meantime, you can focus on building your brand presence on Instagram by posting engaging content, using relevant hashtags, and interacting with your followers.

Ultimately, we have been telling our clients that it is up to them whether or not they want to go through Instagram Meta Verified. We have seem it bring down engagement for some, and up engagement for others. We too are going through the process of weighing the pros versus cons and learning as we go. The more we know, the more we will update you, but for now, do what you can to involve yourself in the new opportunities being thrown at you + keep creating!
